50 lakh Covid-19 vaccines land in Dhaka

The first consignment of COVID-19 50 lakh Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines purchased by the government landed in Dhaka this morning.

An Air India special flight carrying the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, manufactured by Serum Institute of India, reached Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:15am, Nazmul Hasan Papon, Managing Director of Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd told BSS.

The vaccines were brought to Beximco warehouses in Tongi, he said.

The health ministry sources said Bangladesh received its first ever COVID-19 vaccine consignment on January 21 (Thursday) as India sent 20 lakh doses of vaccine as gift.

The total vaccine doses stand at 70 lakh doses now. The government has taken all necessary preparations for distribution and preservation of these 70 lakh doses of vaccine, he added.
