Covid-19 death toll nears 4,600 in Bangladesh

Bangladesh's Covid-19 death toll surged to 4,593 on Wednesday after the health authorities announced deaths of 41 more patients.

In the meantime, 1,827 others have been diagnosed with coronavirus across the country taking the total cases to 331,078.

Of the total population, 0.19 percent have been infected by Covid-19 and 0.0027 percent have died, the Directorate General of Health Services said in a press release.

Ninety-four RT-PCR testing facilities across the country tested 14,755 samples in a day. So far 1,674,452 samples have been tested and 19.7 percent of them were positive.

In the last 24 hours, 2,995 patients recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 230,804.

In per one million population, 10.73 have been diagnosed with the virus in the last 24 hours while 1944.01 contracted the disease since March 8.

At present, there are 95,681 active cases in the country according to Worldometer. Bangladesh is seeing 1,355 recoveries per million while 28 are dying.

Among the latest fatalities, 24 are aged above 60 years, 10 between 51 and 60 years and 6 between 21 and 50 years.

So far, 2,217 have died in Dhaka division, 978 in Chattogram, 306 in Rajshahi, 390 in Khulna, 178 in Barishal, 208 in Sylhet, 218 in Rangpur and 98 in Mymensingh.

Across the country, 18,734 people are in isolation and 51,208 people are quarantined at present.
