Two NGOs banned in Cox’s Bazar

The NGO Bureau has ordered to freeze banking transaction of two international aid agencies- Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) and Al Markajul Islami after banning those in Cox’s Bazar and Rohingya inhabited areas over allegation of financially assisting Rohingya gathering and for anti repatriation campaign.

Deputy Director of NGO Bureau Abdullah Al Khairum said this to Rtv. He said, all the programs of the said two NGOs have been banned after freezing their bank accounts.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Cox’s Bazar Md. Kamal Hossain informed about receiving the NGO Bureau letter in this regard. He said, we will take measures on behalf of the district administration according to the direction.

In this regard Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) of Cox’s Bazar Md. Ashraful Afsar said, there are allegations against ADRA and Al Markajul Islami of secretly assisting Rohingyas to hold the gathering on August 25 and provoking them for anti repatriation campaign. Based on the allegations NGO Bureau issued ban over their activities and bank accounts.

Mentionable, more than 11 lakh Rohingyas from Myanmar have taken shelter in different camps in Cox’s Bazar following army atrocities in Rakhine. Different local and international NGOs are providing emergency assistance there.
