Titas Gas authority has proposed to double the prices of gas for their all types of customers. The company on Tuesday proposed to raise the prices on an average of 103 percent.

The Energy Regulatory Commission has begun a public hearing from Monday to increase the price of gas within nine months difference. On the first day Petrobangla proposed to raise the price of gas at the customer level. But the experts and participants strongly opposed the process of increasing price in the public hearing.

Besides, GTCL applied for increasing the transmission charge by 33 percent.

Energy Advisor of Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) Professor Shamsul Alam said, the new proposal of gas price increase is illegal according to the law as it was increased just 12 months ago.

About the reason of price hike of gas State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid told the media, the government provides subsidy worth huge sum in gas sector. We are trying to decrease the subsidy slowly. Although, the price hike will not make it profitable.

Mentionable, gas prices were increased at first phase on March 1, 2017 and at second phase on June 1 last year .
