‘Practice of literature can guide the youth society to the right track. Books can help us to explore our thought and spirit. At present we have attained recognition as a non-communal nation. There will be no scope for terrorism-militancy in Bangladesh. Terrorism and corruption will not exist in the country.’
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said these while inaugurating the month long Amar Ekushey Book Fair on Friday afternoon.
She said, book fair is not for buying or selling it is the fair of life of the Bangalee nation. Our minds take place in the book fair when the month of February comes.
The premier said, the literature and culture of Bangladesh have reached high stage in the global arena due to the Amar Ekushey Book Fair. The importance of books will never come down due to our mechanical lives. The demand of books will never end.
She said, February 21st not only our Shaheed Day, it is the international mother language day. ‘Bangla’ gained the honor of international mother language in 1999 due to the efforts of two expatriates and the then Awami League government.
The Prime Minister said, Bangladesh was known as the killer nation in the global arena through the killing of Bangabandhu in 1975. At present we have upheld our image in the international arena. At present Bangladesh has emerged as a non-communal country in the world.
She also emphasized on translating more books to know the literature of outside world.
Like every year the Ekushey Book Fair will continue till February 28. The fair will be opened to all from 3 pm to 9 pm every day except Friday and Saturday. On Friday and Saturday the fair will start from 8:30 am. There will be children’s hours in these days which will start at 11 am and will continue till 1 pm. In the second part the fair will start at 3 pm.
