Journalist Amanullah Kabir dies
Senior journalist Amanullah Kabir has died on Tuesday night at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in the city.

He was undergoing treatment for diabetes and liver diseases in the last few days.

He was admitted to Dhaka Central International Hospital in the capital’s Shyamoli two weeks ago.

As his condition deteriorated, Kabir was taken to Ibn Sina Hospital in Dhanmond. Later, he was shifted to BSMMU.

Amanullah Kabir, one of the key figures of journalists’ movement, was born in Jamalpur on January 24, 1947.

During his four and a half decades long career as a journalist, Amanullah was the founding editor of Bengali daily Amar Desh and the English daily The Telegraph (now defunct)

He also served as the managing editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and as the executive editor of the English daily The Independent.

At the beginning of the English daily The Daily Star, edited by SM Ali, he was appointed as news editor.

Amanullah Kabir joined bdnews24.com in September 2013 as a senior editor and discharged his duty till his death.

He served as a journalist leader for a long time. As the president of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists, he played a great role to realize the demands of the fellows.

Amanullah Kabir also played an active role in the anti- Ershad movement.
