Students-workers clash, transport strike in Dinajpur

Incident of clashes happened between students and transport workers over giving side to a bus at Hazi Danesh University of Science and Technology. In demand of taking action against the involved the Motor Owners-Workers United Association called strike for indefinite period.

The workers called the strike over the allegation that on Wednesday students attacked the workers and set fire on two buses in the Dinajpur bus terminal area.

Meanwhile, general passengers are in great sufferings due to the sudden halt of bus movement.

Officer in Charge of the Kotwali police station Redwanur Rahim said, incident of clashes happened over giving side on the road between a bus carrying the students of Hazi Danesh University of Science and Technology and a bus of Tripti Paribahan. At that time the angry students set fire on two buses and vandalize some other vehicles.

He said, additional force was deployed in the Hazi Danesh University and bus terminal areas to avert untoward situation.

General Secretary of Dinajpur Transport Workers Union Fazle Rabbi alleged, several workers were injured following the student attack and two were admitted in the hospital.

On Thursday morning he said, all types of vehicle movement will be stopped until security of workers and officials is ensured and compensation is given.

Dinajpur Police Super Hamidul Alam said, the situation will be solved today after holding discussion with transport owners-workers and students.
